A Lafayette contractor
who does the work himself

Mercer Precision Construction is Parker Mercer’s business. He gives the estimate, he builds the project, and his name is on the result — which is a fairly good reason to get it right.

The short version

Parker Mercer, owner

Parker started Mercer Precision Construction because he likes working with his hands and he likes the part of the job where somebody’s idea turns into something physical you can walk up to and touch. That is genuinely how he describes it himself.

Most of the work is fencing — new fences dug, set and built, and existing fences repaired. Alongside that he builds decks, pergolas and outdoor structures, stacks retaining walls, and takes on interior and exterior carpentry and home repairs. All of it is residential-scale work for property owners around Lafayette.

Because Mercer is owner-operated, there is no gap between the person who quotes a job and the person who does it. You are not handed to a crew you have never met, and there is nobody to point at when something needs sorting out. Parker gets back to every call and text himself.

“I love working with my hands and fulfilling people’s visions and wishes. I am very meticulous with my work and strive on doing it right the first time.”

How Parker works

Four things you can count on

Not a mission statement — just the handful of habits that make a small contractor worth calling back.
  • Do it right the first time

Parker's own description of how he works is that he is meticulous and strives on doing it right the first time. In practice that means checking a post is plumb before the concrete sets rather than looking at a crooked run afterwards.

  • Say what the job actually needs

If a repair will hold, you get told a repair will hold. If it will not, you get told that too. Recommending more work than a property needs is a short-term way to run a business, and Mercer is not built that way.

  • Keep the customer in the loop

You will know what is being built, roughly when, and what changed if anything changed. Most frustration with contractors comes from silence, and silence is easy to avoid.

  • Leave the site better than you found it

Post-hole spoil, offcuts and packaging go with Parker. Finishing a job includes the clean-up.
